ALAN ZACHARY & MICHAEL WEINER wrote the score for the Broadway musical comedy First Date (book: Austin Winsberg), which premiered at the Longacre Theatre and has subsequently had hundreds of productions around the world and been translated into over a dozen languages. Their Broadway-bound musical Trading Places, based on the iconic film, had its world premiere at Atlanta’s Alliance Theatre, directed by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon (book: Thomas Lennon). Upcoming in the West End is a musical adaptation of the hit film 13 Going on 30 (dir: Andy Fickman / book: Josh Goldsmith & Cathy Yuspa). The team also wrote music and lyrics for musical adaptations of the Warner Bros. films Secondhand Lions (book: Rupert Holmes) – which debuted at Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre (Studio album on Broadway Records) – and 17 Again (dir: Adam Shankman / book: Marco Pennette / Studio album on Concord Theatricals Recordings / Licensing: MTI).
For TV/Streaming/Film, Alan and Michael contributed the first original song for High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (Disney+) – performed by Grammy winner Olivia Rodrigo & Joshua Bassett – and penned all the songs for the critically acclaimed musical episode of ABC’s Once Upon a Time. They also wrote songs for Paws of Fury, the Paramount Pictures animated feature, co-directed by Lion King director Rob Minkoff. Additionally, they’ve developed pilots, movies and songs for Disney+, Dreamworks Animation, TriStar, ABC, NBC, FOX, CW, Disney Channel, VH1, Nickelodeon and Amazon Studios.
Zachary & Weiner are recipients of the ASCAP Foundation Richard Rodgers New Horizons Award, presented by Broadway legend Stephen Schwartz.
